The
Centennial Mine was discovered around the early 1930s and was worked extensively
until the 1950s. The battery was erected in 1934, at which time it is
believed this hut was also erected. The hut was used as sleeping quarters
for the miners and also cookhouse for men engaged to work at the mine.
It contained a double bunk and a single stretcher bed, a 'crude'
kitchen table and an open stone and iron fireplace. The floor was of
timber planks, with bush pole frame construction, lined in tar paper and
clad with corrugated
iron. |
