This handsome book of 118 pages is a distillation of 35 years of wandering in the High Country of Australia by Klaus Hueneke carrying his trusty Rolleicord camera to capture the evocative colour photographs displayed here. There are sweeping vistas of snow clad mountains in the Snowy Mountains, glimpses of the rivers and mountains around Canberra, close-ups of flowers on Victorian ridges and shots of sparkling tarns in Tasmania. But threaded throughout there are images of huts, their surroundings and interiors, with willing workers rebuilding, repairing and maintaining them, illustrating better than any words the author’s love affair with huts. Each section, on Namadgi, Kosciuszko, the Victorian Alps and Tasmania, is introduced by a couple of pages of text which neatly set the scene for the photographs that follow. This is a book that will certainly inspire all readers to pack up and head for the hills to enjoy the wonderful experience of the High Country shared by the author.
